The fighters of the Wagner PMC will remain in Belarus for as long as Minsk and the group need it. This was stated by the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko.
“Wagner” lived, “Wagner” is alive and “Wagner” will live in Belarus, no matter how much someone would not like it. <...> Within a few days everyone will be here, up to 10,000 people. Now there is no need to keep them here. Therefore, they do not run anywhere. As long as we need this unit, they will live and work with us,” Lukashenka said (quote according to BelTA).
Agreements that PMC fighters and Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin would work in Belarus were reached on the evening of June 24 after the PMC attempted an armed rebellion in Russia. In the unified state register of legal entities and entrepreneurs of Belarus “Wagner” registered as an educational organization of Wagner Group LLC.
On July 11, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus announced its intention to exchange experience with units of the Wagner PMC after their arrival in the republic. Later that month, units of the special operations forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces and fighters from the Wagner PMC held a joint exercise.
On August 23, the Embraer plane, on board of which, according to the Federal Air Transport Agency, was Prigozhin, suffered crash in the Tver region near the village of Kuzhenkino. The plane followed the route Moscow – St. Petersburg. In addition to Prigogine, there were 9 other people on board. According to preliminary data, all passengers and crew members died.
