On May 15, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko arrived at the central command post of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of the republic. About it informs BelTA.
Close to the press service of the President of Belarus Telegram channel “Pool of the First” published a photo with Lukashenka taken during the president’s visit to a military post. This is the first public appearance of the Belarusian leader after reports of his possible illness.
During the visit, Lukashenka will hear a report from the military on the organization and fulfillment of the tasks of combat duty in air defense. According to Pool One, the president’s meeting with the military has already begun.
Reports of a possible deterioration in Lukashenka’s health appeared after May 9. On that day, the Belarusian president attended Victory Day events in Moscow, including a parade, but was later unable to attend a breakfast with Russian President Vladimir Putin and CIS leaders in the Kremlin. Also, after the military parade, Lukashenka did not go on foot with other politicians to the Alexander Garden, but went by electric car.
Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov explained the absence of the Belarusian president at an informal breakfast due to the fact that he had to leave for Minsk to participate in the events. On May 9, Lukashenka was indeed present at the military parade in Minsk, and after that he laid a wreath at the Victory Monument. However, for the first time in 29 years, he did not deliver a speech. On behalf of the President of Belarus, this was done by the Minister of Defense of the Republic Viktor Khrenin.
On May 14, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko did not appear at the ceremony of celebrating the Day of the Flag, Emblem and Anthem of the Republic. His appeal was read out by Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko.
Lukashenka’s press service has not commented on the absence of the head of state in public since May 9. Earlier, the Kremlin refused to comment on Lukashenka’s state of health, noting that it “would be extremely incorrect,” and urged focus on the official messages of Minsk.
