Lokomotiv Penza won the 3rd round of the Russian Rugby-7 Championship in Sochi

Sochi hosted the 3rd round of the 2022/23 Russian Championship in the Olympic rugby-7 discipline among men’s teams. The tournament was held at the stadium “Yug Sport” with the participation of 10 leading clubs of the country.
The current champion and leader of the current draw Lokomotiv from Penza confirmed its class. Alexander Yanyushkin’s team outplayed VVA-Podmoskovye from Monino in the final match – 15:14. The third was Zastava-7 from St. Petersburg, which defeated Taganiy Rog from Taganrog in the small final with a score of 12:7.
Failure befell the only representatives of the Kuban in the tournament – the Krasnodar Bogatyrs. This team took only ninth place. At the group stage, the Kuban lost in all 4 matches. But in the play-off, they managed to beat Enisey Krasnoyarsk in extra time – 27:22. The victory became important, because it was these teams that previously shared sixth place in the overall standings. Now Bogatyrs have taken the lead by 1 point – 26 against 25.
Lokomotiv is confidently leading with 60 points. Zastava-7 has 48, VVA-Podmoskovye and Strela Kazan have 46 each. These teams will compete for championship medals.
The final, 4th, round will also be held in the Olympic capital next weekend on April 8-9.
