Liverpool could buy Kylian Mbappe for €200m

The relationship between the management of France’s best football club PSG and its most valuable player, Kylian Mbappe, seems to have entered the final stage. The bosses of the Parisians have long resisted the desire of the super-forward to go to Real Madrid, but it seems that a new player has appeared on the scene – Liverpool. The British, according to the radio station RMC (Radio Monte Carlo), are ready to buy Mbappe for €200 million. It is very likely that the owners of PSG will accept this offer, given the unwillingness of the forward himself to stay in Paris. Another question is from what sources Liverpool intends to finance such a large deal. It falls short of a record transfer in 2017, when Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona for €222m.

Radio station RMC reported that the owners of the best French club PSG are ready to part with their super-forward Kylian Mbappe for € 200 million. At the same time, according to journalist Edu Aguirre, English Liverpool are already ready to pay the said amount.

It should be noted that back in June, representatives of Mbappe distributed through the agency AFP press release on the footballer’s contract situation. It says that as early as July 15, 2022, Mbappe “verbally” notified PSG leaders that he would not exercise the option of extending it in 2024. However, the striker does not want to leave the Parisian club until the end of July, as he will receive a €40 million loyalty bonus for this month.

Thus, the Parisians were in danger of losing their most important asset without compensation. This brought the confrontation between the player and the leadership of PSG to a new level.

Last Wednesday PSG owner Nasser al-Khelaifi declaredthat does not intend to let Mbappe go for free.

He noted that if Mbappe plans to start next season with the French club, he must sign a new contract. “Our position is very simple,” Mr. al-Khelaifi said. “If Mbappe wants to stay, which we want, he must sign a new contract. We won’t let him get away for free. Let him not think that he will leave here for free.”

Al-Khelaifi’s position is not difficult to understand. In 2018, the purchase of Mbappe cost the Parisians €180 million. This is still the second figure in history – only Neymar was more expensive, who was bought by the same PSG in 2017 for €222 million. spent about €200 million more. It would be unreasonable to wait for someone else to get such an expensive asset for free.

Recall that the key contender for the services of Mbappe for a long time was considered Real Madrid. The president of the Spanish giant, Florentino Perez, repeatedly attempted to lure Mbappe away, but was not ready to go on a frontal attack and outbid the player’s contract for any money. It is characteristic that in early June, when answering a fan’s question about whether Mbappe would be bought, he said that he would, but not this season. That is, Madrid preferred to wait for the striker’s contract to expire.

However, according to journalist Edu Aguirre, a new player has appeared on the scene – Liverpool. The English team, clearly in need of a fresh impetus (Liverpool were only fifth in the last English championship, which means they did not qualify for the Champions League), is allegedly ready to pay € 200 million for Mbappe. According to him, the Liverpool team sent an official offer to the PSG office about the purchase of Mbappe and “negotiations are proceeding rapidly.”

One can only guess from what sources Liverpool intends to finance such a major deal (in its entire history, more than €85 million – that’s how much the transfer of Virgil van Dijk cost in 2017 – the Liverpool did not pay).

However, according to the publication L’Equipe, a new player may appear in the race for Mbappe. L’Equipe cites the opinion of football agent Bruno Saten, who believes that a club that is not backed by some state in one way or another will not be able to pay € 200 million. Thus, according to Mr. Saten, there are two options left – “Manchester city”owned by City Football Group from the UAE, and Newcastle, controlled by the Saudi state investment fund (Public Investment Fund, PIF).
