Lithuania will restrict the disembarkation of Russians from trains to Kaliningrad on its territory
The Lithuanian government has decided to limit the disembarkation and embarkation of passengers from trains heading to Kaliningrad. This is reported by the local portal 15min, citing a government decree. According to the innovation, the ban will come into force on March 1, 2024 and will apply to the border checkpoint near the village of Kyana. Another point of restriction will be the Kirbartai station, where trains make an additional stop when traveling to or from Kaliningrad.
Lithuanian Minister of Internal Affairs Agne Bilotaite noted that passengers in transit to the Kaliningrad region and holding EU visas are disembarked at these points. She also clarified that for some Russians, the Kyana station was the end point of the journey, although the stop there is technical and needed for border control.
According to the new rules, from March 1, boarding or disembarking passengers will be allowed only in “exceptional cases”, which will be decided by the State Border Service (VSAT).
The Lithuanian government has not specified whether Russians with EU passports, visas and residence permits will have the right to leave the train.
