Lithuania organizes exercises to test algorithms for closing the border with Belarus

“We have confirmed that we plan to conduct certain exercises between our institutions in the region and try to see how this algorithm can work during such exercises,” Bilotaite told reporters at a press conference.

The head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that cooperation between the states of the region is a “serious signal” to other countries.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda 3 August stated about the possible complete closure of the border with Belarus due to the Wagner PMC fighters located there. The next day, member of the Committee on Defense and National Security of the Lithuanian Seimas Laurynas Kasciunas announced on the air of the Lithuanian National Radio and Television that the closure of certain checkpoints bordering Belarus would definitely happen. 16 August Government of Lithuania approved a proposal from the Ministry of Transport to temporarily suspend the work of two of the six checkpoints on the border with Belarus. Bilotaite stated that this decision is a response to the deployment of fighters from the Wagner PMC in Belarus.
