Lithuania unilaterally blocked traffic through the Medininkai checkpoint on the border with Belarus, the press service of the State Border Committee (CBC) of the republic reported.

The Belarusian Border Committee clarified that the Lithuanian side stopped registering citizens and vehicles at the Medininkai checkpoint in the village of the same name on July 8 at 13:00. The ministry stressed that the Belarusian side is ready to let people and cars into its territory.

“The entire responsibility for the aggravation of the situation at the border and the formation of queues lies with the Lithuanian side. We recommend that you take this information into account and choose alternative routes,” the statement reads. message.

Earlier, the Lithuanian customs warned that from July 3 it would tighten the rules for the transit of a number of goods through Russia and Belarus. It was reported that the new rules would oblige shippers to produce a manufacturer’s declaration. In this document, he will have to confirm that he knows the seller and buyer of his goods in a third country, indicating that the goods will not be resold or transferred to another transport during transit. In February, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service notified Border Committee of Belarus on the termination of the uninterrupted flow of transport across the border of countries. The agreement between the countries has been in force since November 4, 2019.
