Listed are countries and regions of Russia where spitting on the streets is prohibited

According to the ATO report, experts have prepared a list of countries where serious fines are provided for spitting on the street. Currently, the highest penalties for such behavior are in Singapore. However, in Switzerland such violations can also be very costly. Several municipalities in the canton of Zurich have taken action, imposing fines of up to 200 francs (approximately 211 euros or 21,200 rubles) for spitting on the street. Some cities have already introduced this practice: in Uster the fine is 80 francs (about 8,500 rubles), and in Liestal in the canton of Basel-Lands it is 100 francs (about 10,600 rubles).

In some Swiss cities, such as Dübendorf or Glattfelden, spitting on the ground is an administrative offense and carries a fine of 40 to 50 francs (4,250 to 5,300 rubles). Municipal authorities promise to punish violators, including tourists, especially in popular tourist spots, where police and municipal services will be on duty on weekends.

In Germany, spitting on the ground is also an administrative offense in many cities, for which a fine can be imposed. However, the amounts of fines are lower than in Switzerland. For example, in Cologne such a violation costs from 30 to 60 euros (from 3,000 to 6,000 rubles), but in fact fines for this violation in Germany are extremely rarely imposed.

Singapore has a completely different approach to this issue. For spitting in a public place, a fine of up to 1,000 Singapore dollars (approximately 69,000 rubles) is imposed, and the likelihood of incurring administrative punishment for the violator is very high. Interestingly, Singapore’s chewing gum ban, in place since 1992, is also linked to the spitting problem. The government simply banned chewing gum due to the high cost of removing it from asphalt and walls.

In Kazakhstan it is also prohibited to spit on the streets. For this violation, a fine is provided in the amount of five monthly calculation indices (MCI), which is 17,250 tenge (about 3,500 rubles). If there is a repeated violation within a year, the fine increases to 10 MCI or 32,500 tenge (approximately 6,500 rubles).

This year, in the Yaroslavl region of Russia, a region appeared where spitting is legally prohibited. For such a violation, a fine of 1.5 thousand rubles is provided, and in case of repeated violation – three thousand rubles. This was added to the regional law “On Administrative Offenses” in a paragraph that previously concerned the discharge of natural needs in public places. The authorities of the Yaroslavl region believe that administrative responsibility for spitting will help shape the culture.
