Zoologists from the University of Auckland have concluded that lions, tigers, cheetahs and other non-domesticated species of the family Felidae are able to distinguish people by their voices, recognizing familiar ones.
Animals that were given recordings of different voices responded more quickly to the voices of the people they interacted with. The presence of a nickname for the animal did not have a significant effect on the result.
Scientists have concluded that even non-domesticated cats that regularly interact with people are able to distinguish their voices, even if they are not pack animals.
