The Linux operating system achieved 3.08% market share for the desktop OS for the first time, a milestone that took Linux 32 years to reach. This is stated in report analytical company Statcounter.
The first place among operating systems with a share of 68.2% is occupied by Windows, followed by macOS (21.4%) and ChromeOS (4.15%). Linux is in fourth place, having doubled since 2018, when the OS was installed on 1.64% of desktop PCs. During the same period, macOS’ share increased by 9.1%, while Windows’ share decreased by 13.85%. Linux is a free, security-oriented operating system and is used primarily to maintain servers and supercomputers.
