Competitions were held among boys and girls born in 2006 and younger, all residents of the Kaluga region, schoolchildren.

In Russia, in many regions, chess goes to schools. But there is one problem – the training of coaches. Now we are restoring the teacher training system. And then we will solve other problems,” he said.
And the great grandmaster told young chess players what is needed for character development. “The main thing is the struggle, the education of one’s character, and success will certainly come if you constantly work on chess and truly love it. It’s hard to win every tournament. But I wish that in each tournament you play at least one game that will delight you all your life,” Anatoly Karpov said.
The Governor of Kaluga, Vladislav Shapsha, who was present at the meeting, called the arrival of the great chess player in Kaluga a unique event. “You have an amazing day today! You have a unique opportunity not only to see next to you the world chess champion, the legendary man – Anatoly Evgenyevich Karpov, but even to play with him,” Shapsha told the young participants of the tournament.
Anatoly Karpov is one of the greatest chess players of our time, who left a big mark on the favorite game of millions. One of the most titled chess players, the 12th world champion, three times FIDE world champion. He has about 170 victories in various international tournaments.
