Leaders of all factions participated in the development of the project on confiscations for fakes

Leaders of all factions of the State Duma participated in the preparation of the bill on confiscation of property for “fakes” about the armed forces and calls for activities against the Russian Federation, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the document. Property will be confiscated “if the crime was committed for mercenary reasons.” For discrediting Russian troops, calls for extremism and the introduction of sanctions, as well as for the rehabilitation of Nazism, it is proposed to deprive state awards.

The authors of the bill included State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Deputy Speaker Irina Yarovaya, head of the United Russia faction Vladimir Vasilyev, head of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation faction Gennady Zyuganov, head of the A Just Russia – For Truth faction Sergei Mironov, head of the LDPR faction Leonid Slutsky, the head of the “New People” faction, Alexey Nechaev, as well as the heads of the State Duma committees on security Vasily Piskarev and on culture Elena Yampolskaya.

According to the explanatory note, in order to suppress the financing of crimes and other activities directed against the security of Russia, it is proposed to supplement the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation with a mechanism “providing for the confiscation of money, valuables and other property used or intended for their financing.” It is alleged that the initiative is aimed at suppressing criminal activities “carried out with the aim of undermining the foundations of the constitutional order and the country’s defense capability.”

“The bill has been previously worked out and conceptually supported by the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Justice, and Rosfinmonitoring,” the explanatory note states.

According to RTVI, the government commission on legislative activities on January 15 approved response to the bill on confiscation of property from those convicted of fake news about the army (270.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and calls for activities directed against the security of the Russian Federation (280.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). As the TV channel clarified, not a single comment was made in the draft government review.

Mr. Volodin back in January 2023 offered confiscate the property of departed Russians who “allow themselves to publicly pour dirt on Russia.” Currently, according to the law, only property obtained by criminal means or that constitutes an instrument of crime can be confiscated.
