LDPR has developed a bill to abolish the mandatory Unified State Examination – Kommersant

On Monday, March 11, a group of deputies from the LDPR will submit to the State Duma a bill to abolish the mandatory passing of the unified state exam upon graduation from school. The authors of the document propose to give the right to choose: take the Unified State Exam or “state exams… in educational programs of basic general and secondary general education,” reports TASS.

One of the developers was the head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Yaroslav Nilov. He, citing surveys and meetings with audiences, said that “they don’t like the Unified State Exam.” According to the deputy, the Unified State Exam is “costly for parents, an inferior mechanism for monitoring knowledge, it is a disorder and various diseases.” “We hope that sooner or later the harmful mechanism that exists today and torments children will be corrected, or better yet, eliminated altogether over time,” said Mr. Nilov.

The authors of the bill believe that the adoption of the bill will allow for a better selection of candidates for admission to colleges, schools and technical schools, and will also increase the influx of those wishing to receive vocational training. Those who decide to continue their studies in higher education programs will be able to take the unified exam.

The explanatory note of the bill notes that Russians’ spending on herbal sedatives and glycine during the Unified State Exam in 2023 increased to 471.9 million rubles. 5.4 million packages of sedatives were sold, average daily consumption increased from 55.2 thousand to 61.2 thousand packages. The document also talks about cases of suicide among teenagers who take the Unified State Exam. The document is expected to come into force in 2025 if adopted.

At the end of February, President Vladimir Putin proposed “giving graduates what is called a second chance,” that is, providing the opportunity to retake the Unified State Exam in one of the subjects. Rospotrebnadzor told Kommersant that at the moment the amendments provide for the possibility of retaking only one subject. At the same time, the department advised graduates to “make an informed choice and evaluate their capabilities, since the first result will be canceled regardless of whether it is higher or lower.”
