On June 6, the Liberal Democratic Party held the Supreme Council of the party, where it discussed the lists of candidates for elections to the city dumas and legislative assemblies, as well as candidates from the party in the gubernatorial elections. According to two interlocutors of Vedomosti in the party, the issue was discussed, among other things, of putting Yaroslav Nilov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, as a candidate for the election of the governor of the Samara region. However, the final decision on this issue has been postponed and the candidate for this region has not yet been identified, one of the interlocutors said. Nilov himself declined to comment to Vedomosti.

The final decision on the nomination of a candidate will be made by the regional conference of the party. Nilov, being a schoolboy, studied in Tolyatti, Samara region, after that he moved to the Moscow region. In the State Duma, he is a deputy of four convocations – V, VI, VII and the current VIII. He was elected to the State Duma on the federal list of the party.

The Samara Provincial Duma will consider the issue of scheduling gubernatorial elections in the region on June 9 at its meeting. At a meeting with Vladimir Putin on March 28, the current governor of the Samara region, Dmitry Azarov, said that he planned to run for a new term.
