Promes’ defense will appeal the court’s decision in the Netherlands

Dutch lawyers for Moscow Spartak football player Quincy Promes, convicted in the Netherlands, are appealing the court decision, RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier it was reported that the Amsterdam prosecutor’s office announced that it had put Spartak football player Quincy Promes on the international wanted list, who on Wednesday was sentenced in absentia by the Amsterdam District Court to six years in prison for cocaine smuggling. The prosecutor’s office added that they took measures to extradite Promes and tried to bring him to the Netherlands, but this has not yet been done. At the time of the verdict, Promes was at a training camp with Spartak in the UAE.

According to lawyers, they cannot agree with the court decision, while it is not final, and now the Amsterdam Court of Appeal will consider the case.

“We will take advantage of the coming period to carefully study the verdict and bring to the attention of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal our complaints and wishes regarding further investigation,” the lawyers said in a statement.
