Lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze, representing the interests of the ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, in an interview with the Commander-in-Chief disclosed information about the current state of health of the politician. According to Khachapuridze, Saakashvili has now been diagnosed with 47 different diagnoses, including three incurable diseases.
Although Saakashvili went on hunger strike twice and lost a lot of weight during his imprisonment, he is not currently on hunger strike.
The lawyer also clarified that three diagnoses, namely cachexia (wasting syndrome), dementia and gastroenterological disease, are incurable. According to the order of the Minister of Health, in the presence of three such incurable diseases, a person is released from prison.
“Some doctors talk about six months, some about eight. You know, it’s hard to predict exactly. The fact is that now the situation is only getting worse,” Khachapuridze emphasized.
He recalled that by the time of his arrest and imprisonment, Saakashvili was practically healthy. Later, a special medical commission appointed by the Georgian Ombudsman came to the conclusion that keeping the politician in prison worsened his condition. According to the conclusion of the commission, Saakashvili is very ill and being in prison aggravates the course of his illnesses.
The Georgian government claims that Saakashvili is faking his illnesses.
