Lavrov: West is rewriting history to quarrel Russia and Belarus

The West continues to falsify history in order to sow enmity between Russia and Belarus and prevent the strengthening of the Union State. This is stated in the greeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov to the participants of the plenary session of the Russian-Belarusian forum of historians. The text was read by Nadezhda Barinova, Director of the Historical and Documentary Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, transmits TASS.

He called Western attempts to falsify history cynical. Lavrov drew attention to the rewriting of history books, the distortion of facts and the demolition of monuments.

“The goal is obvious – to sow inter-ethnic and inter-confessional enmity, incite linguistic chauvinism, quarrel our fraternal peoples in the hope of preventing further strengthening of the Union State,” he said.

According to the minister, this can only be countered by “recreating an objective picture of the past.” Lavrov proposed to prepare a monograph on the history of the Union State through the joint efforts of Russia and Belarus. He noted that the experience of such work has already been accumulated.

Russian authorities have repeatedly accused the West of trying to rewrite history. In November 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin declaredthat such attempts are becoming “increasingly aggressive”. According to him, this is done to “shake the sovereignty” of Russia. The head of state added that the method of distorting historical facts had already been tested in a number of states, including Ukraine.
