Lavrov urged the West to recognize the new reality

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on the refusal of other states to recognize the referendums organized in Zaporozhye, Kherson region and Donbass. According to him, the countries of the world need to “realize the new reality.”
“Absolutely not important. Of course, it would be more correct for all countries of the world to realize the new reality that was inevitable,” he told reporters.
Lavrov referred to “a huge number of legal arguments”, including the UN Charter, which specifies the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and the declaration of the General Assembly. The declaration, Lavrov added, says that it is necessary to respect the territorial integrity of those countries that have governments that recognize the right to self-determination and represent all the people living on its territory.
“Zelensky’s regime, and even more so Poroshenko’s, did not meet these criteria,” he said.
