The special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine will continue until all goals are achieved, no matter how long it takes, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the American magazine Newsweek.
According to the diplomat, Western countries left no other choice by their actions “to nurture a Russophobic neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine”, military development and turning its territory into a springboard to contain Russia.
“Her [СВО] the goals are known: the protection of the population of Donbass, the elimination of threats to the security of Russia, the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. All of them remain relevant and will be implemented, no matter how long it takes,” Lavrov said.
Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier today that there are no plans to change the status of the special operation in Ukraine and introduce martial law in Russia.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. In March, the Russian leader said that the decision to conduct a NMD was linked to an “absolutely real threat” to Russia arising from Ukraine’s desire to join NATO and statements by the Ukrainian authorities about the possibility of acquiring nuclear weapons.
On September 21, Putin announced a partial mobilization in the country. Only citizens who are in the reserve are subject to conscription, and above all those who served in the ranks of the Armed Forces, have certain military registration specialties and relevant experience. Later, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stressed that the mobilization would not affect students and conscripts.
