Lavrov: Russia is forced to compensate for the deployment of US nuclear weapons in Europe

Russia is forced to resort to compensatory measures given the US deployment of nuclear weapons in Europe and the implementation of joint nuclear missions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a high-level conference on Eurasian security in Minsk.
“Increased strategic risks are created due to the forward deployment of American nuclear weapons in a number of European countries and the implementation of so-called joint nuclear missions. This has an extremely destabilizing charge and, against the backdrop of a general increase in threats from NATO, forces us to resort to compensatory measures,” he said.
NATO, according to Lavrov, is not embarrassed that by their actions they violate their obligations to comply with the principle of equal and indivisible security, which provides for the refusal to strengthen their own security at the expense of others. Western countries, the minister believes, have destroyed the complex of confidence-building and arms control measures in Europe.
“It is enough to mention the withdrawal of the United States from the anti-ballistic missile treaties, the ban on intermediate- and shorter-range missiles, and Open Skies,” he explained.
Earlier on October 25, Russian President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces Vladimir Putin spent training of strategic nuclear deterrent forces. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, during his report to Putin, explained that during the training, tasks were being worked out to deliver a massive nuclear strike in response to an enemy nuclear strike.
As Vedomosti wrote, Russia received an offer from the United States to systematically resume dialogue on strategic stability. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov explained that the American proposal does not mean an immediate resumption of the dialogue on strategic stability, since they propose to place the dialogue on strategic stability and arms control in isolation from “everything that is happening.”
