Sport must remain out of politics as it brings people together through the natural feeling of fair competition. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the solemn ceremony of the start of the international rally “Silk Way – 2023”.
The diplomat stressed that sport “should be outside of politics, no matter how hard some sports, near-sports figures try to politicize it.”
Earlier, the government of the Czech Republic, headed by its leader, Prime Minister Petr Fiala, at the proposal of the Ministry of Education, agreed on June 28 to ban the participation of Russian athletes and teams in competitions and matches on the territory of their country. The same ban should apply to the participation of athletes representing the Czech Republic in competitions in Russia. At the same time, the Czech Olympic Committee has already acted against any form of participation of Russians and Belarusians qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
