Lavrov: no one in the world wants the emergence of new nuclear countries
[ad_1]
Saudi Arabia has announced that it will acquire nuclear weapons if Iran acquires them. The idea was voiced in an interview with Fox News by the country’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, commenting on his words, said that Moscow perceives this as a statement of fact. But not a single country in the world wants the number of nuclear powers to expand.
Lavrov recalled that Iran has repeatedly stated that it does not intend to acquire nuclear weapons. Even the spiritual leader of the country issued a corresponding order. The Russian diplomat proposed for now to proceed from the point of view that Iran’s neighbors will not be tempted to acquire nuclear warheads.
Let us remind you that eight countries in the world currently have nuclear weapons. Five of them ratified the Nuclear Weapons Non-Proliferation Treaty. Three more – India, Pakistan and Israel have not ratified the document. Moreover, only India and Pakistan openly declared the presence of nuclear warheads.
