Lavrov: NATO is trying to promote its interests in the Transcaucasus through Armenia

Russia records NATO’s attempts to promote its interests in the Transcaucasus through Armenia, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to journalists.
The minister is confident that the intensification of anti-Russian sentiments in the republic is being done artificially. In particular, this is done through a large number of non-governmental organizations that have been created in Armenia in recent years.
“These organizations are not created with the aim of promoting friendly relations between Armenia and the Russian Federation, quite the contrary. They are aimed at creating the ground here for anti-Russian sentiments and preparing for the promotion of interests in this region through Armenia, primarily of the United States and the European Union and NATO countries,” he said.
Such attempts, according to Lavrov, achieve certain results, but the majority of Armenians are interested in developing fraternal ties with Russia. He also recalled the recent press conference of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during which he stated that Yerevan is not changing its guidelines in foreign policy.
“Let’s hope that this position will prevail despite attempts to pull Yerevan in a different direction,” summed up the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Earlier on October 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin talked with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, including discussing the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh.
During the plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi, he stated that Armenia could receive part of the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. According to him, for the last 15 years Moscow has offered Yerevan to receive two territories of Karabakh, but to return five regions to Azerbaijan.
