Lavrov: G7 summit decisions aimed at containing Russia and China

Russia has entered a phase of sharp confrontation with an aggressive bloc composed of the United States, the European Union and NATO, and the decisions taken at the G7 summit in Hiroshima are aimed at containing Russia and China, declared Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the XXXI Assembly of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy.

According to the minister, Western countries set themselves the task of defeating Russia not only on the battlefield, but also eliminating it as a geopolitical competitor. Any other country that claims an independent place in the world layout will also be suppressed as a competitor, Lavrov said.

“Look at the decisions that are being discussed and adopted today in Hiroshima at the G-7 summit and which are aimed at the double deterrence of Russia and the People’s Republic of China,” he added.

The Western expert community is openly discussing the received order for the development of scenarios for the “dismemberment” of Russia, the politician noted. According to him, it is not hidden that the existence of our country as an independent center is incompatible with the achievement of the goal of the global dominance of the West.

On May 19, a three-day summit of the heads of the G7 countries opened in Hiroshima (Japan). The summit focused on the issue of further support for Ukraine, as well as issues of economic security and climate protection.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said earlier that the Big Seven “has completely lost its authority.” According to her, now the G7 members are engaged in “drawing” dividing lines in international relations, trying to impose their will on others and coordinating measures of pressure on “undesirable countries.”
