Lavrov expressed hope for the creation of a Palestinian state after the conflict

Moscow hopes that at the end of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, in accordance with the decision of the UN Security Council, the sovereign state of Palestine will be created. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“We really hope that once this conflict is over, and we advocate for this to happen immediately, everyone will take seriously the responsibility to implement the decisions of the UN Security Council on the creation of a Palestinian state based on the principles that were approved by the UN,” – he said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).

On October 11, speaking at the plenary session of the Russian Energy Week, Russian President Vladimir Putin remindedthat Moscow has always advocated the implementation of the UN Security Council decision on the creation of an independent Palestinian state. According to him, it is important to resolve socio-economic issues, but it is impossible to overcome the problem “as a whole” without resolving “fundamental political issues,” including the creation of a Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem.

On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas began military operations against Israel. The militants attacked the army’s border units and freely entered Israeli populated areas, where they captured an unknown number of hostages, both military and civilian. The Israeli Army (IDF) responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, and the Israeli government announced that the country had entered a state of war.

According to the latest data, the number of victims of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has exceeded 2,400 people. In particular, earlier the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that the death toll had reached almost 1,200 people and 5,600 injured. At the same time, the Israeli side reported 1,300 dead and 3,300 injured. Among the victims were four Russian citizens who also had Israeli citizenship.
