Lavrov announced the solidarity of many countries with Russia

Foreign ministers of some countries expressed solidarity with Russia against the backdrop of the situation on June 24, when an armed coup attempt took place. About it informed Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with RT.

“I have received several calls of solidarity, including from many African friends. Therefore, we proceed from the fact that no opportunistic moments can be introduced into the strategic relations between Russia and our African partners,” he said.

Lavrov also recalled that the government of the Central African Republic and Mali appealed to Wagner PMCs with a request to ensure the safety of their leadership in conditions when they were “simply abandoned by the French and other Europeans, curtailing the presence of anti-terrorist contingents there and closing their military bases, which were designed to reinforce the fight with terrorism.”

At the same time, at the request of the governments of the Central African Republic and Mali and an agreement through the Russian leadership, several hundred military personnel are in these countries as instructors. “This work, of course, will be continued,” Lavrov added.

After the June 24 events, the Kremlin reported on several international talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin. In particular, on June 26, the Russian leader spent a conversation with Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi, and on June 24 with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. All of them expressed support for the actions of the Russian authorities. In addition, Putin spoke about the situation in the country in telephone conversations with the presidents of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Alexander Lukashenko, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

On the night of June 24, an armed rebellion was attempted in Russia. On the evening of June 23, in the Telegram channel of the press service of the founder of PMC Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin, there were reports of a strike on the rear camps of the company. The Ministry of Defense immediately denied this information, calling it a provocation. That same evening, the FSB opened a criminal case against Prigozhin under the article on armed rebellion.

The next day, June 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a video message, calling the rebellion an internal betrayal and a “stab in the back” to the country. In Moscow, the Moscow and Voronezh regions, a counter-terrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced, which was canceled today, June 26th. In this regard, the regions on June 24 began to cancel mass events and impose restrictions on the roads. In particular, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin called for less movement around the city. Similar measures were introduced in the Voronezh region and in Rostov-on-Don. Now they are all cancelled.

On June 24, Wagner managed to block Rostov-on-Don and take control of the city’s military facilities. On the evening of June 24, the Kremlin reported on the agreements reached with the founder of the PMC. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held talks with him, Prigozhin agreed to take measures to de-escalate the situation. In particular, the founder of the PMC announced the return of fighters and equipment to field camps. It was decided to stop the criminal case against the businessman. However, on June 26, RIA Novosti, Interfax, Kommersant and TASS, citing sources, reported that the criminal case against Prigozhin on organizing a military mutiny had not yet been closed.
