Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister discussed the supply of 1 million tons of Russian grain for processing

Foreign Ministers of Russia and Turkey Sergey Lavrov and Hakan Fidan discussed at today’s talks the possibility of supplying 1 million tons of Russian grain to the Turkish side at a reduced price for its subsequent processing and shipment to countries in need. About it declared Russian minister at a press conference.

“We discussed Russia’s initiative to organize deliveries of up to 1 million tons of Russian grain to Turkey at a reduced price for subsequent processing at Turkish enterprises and shipment to the most needy countries in the world,” Lavrov said.

This issue is also being discussed with partners from Qatar who are ready to take part in the financial component of this initiative. The parties also discussed the further fate of the grain deal, from which Russia withdrew in July.

“We conveyed to our Turkish partners our understanding of what needs to be done, in the West, first of all, to restore this initiative,” Lavrov said, adding that Russia is ready to resume the deal “on the same day” when the requirements of the Russian Federation are met.

How informed Earlier, the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry, with the initiative to organize the supply of 1 million tons of Russian grain to Turkey at a preferential price with the financial support of Qatar, Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier spoke.

The grain deal was concluded on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Turkey and the UN, on the one hand, and representatives of Russia and Ukraine, on the other. As part of the negotiations, two agreements were signed between Moscow and Kiev. The first is for the export of Ukrainian grain from three ports, including Odessa, Yuzhny and Chornomorsk, the second is for assistance in the export of Russian grain and fertilizers. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the second part of the deal is not being implemented.

On July 17, Russia withdrew from the Black Sea initiative. The Kremlin explained this by the failure to fulfill the second part of the agreement, which concerns, among other things, the lifting of restrictions on the supply of Russian products.
