According to Kommersant, the Latvian authorities are studying the possibility of tightening the conditions for issuing a residence permit for Russian citizens, including those who have Latvian roots.
As clarifies the publication, we are talking about the suspension of the law “On repatriation”.
“Riga intends to block access to residence permits for Russians with Latvian roots… At the same time, Latvians who decide to return to their historical homeland will be able to apply for Latvian citizenship, but most likely with the renunciation of Russian citizenship,” the authors of the article suggest.
