President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov said that for Vladimir Putin’s visit, the Kyrgyz parliament ratified an agreement on the creation of a unified regional air defense system of Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation. The document was signed in August 2022 in Moscow and has already been ratified by the Russian side.

“I am convinced that the created regional air defense system will be an effective tool for protecting the common aerospace space from threats and will help strengthen relations in the military sphere,” Japarov said, speaking at the ceremony celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Russian Kant base.

The location for such statements was obviously not chosen by chance, since air defense elements will be located next to the base. For this purpose, the Kyrgyz authorities undertake to allocate a land plot of 5 hectares.

The joint actions of the air defense forces will be controlled by the commander of the Air Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan. The Russian side will be responsible for the financial component and logistics and support.

Japarov expressed Kyrgyzstan’s interest in developing military-technical cooperation with the Russian Federation “through modernization of military equipment and infrastructure, training of military personnel and exchange of experience.”

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov called the agreement on the creation of a joint air defense system “a great achievement.” “Such joint security elements are very important,” he emphasized.
