Kyrgyzstan launches investigation over US threats to impose sanctions

Kyrgyzstan launched an investigation into the involvement of companies in violating the sanctions restrictions imposed on Russia. This was reported in the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of the country.

With reference to the press service of the department, the portal 24.kg informsthat the State Committee for National Security asserts that the Kyrgyz state is not involved in the violation of the regime of sanctions imposed by the United States and Western countries, and state structures strictly adhere to international norms. At the same time, the agency does not exclude that private firms could not comply with the restrictions by mistake.

“The State Committee for National Security admits the possible involvement of private companies and firms in this, which, within the framework of their business and production activities, could be involved in violations of sanctions restrictions, possibly without knowing who the end consumer and user of the products supplied by them may actually be,” the state committee said in a statement. In this regard, the department launched an investigation.

On July 18, The Washington Post, citing US officials wrotethat the administration of US President Joe Biden is preparing new economic measures against Kyrgyzstan so that the country refuses to trade with Russia. Restrictions could start as early as this week.

In the Kremlin, in response to this information reportedthat Russia will continue to develop relations with Kyrgyzstan. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the republic “a close partner and ally” of Moscow. According to him, integration with Russia is of great benefit to Kyrgyzstan itself.

In April, Russian President Vladimir Putin spent telephone conversations with his Kyrgyz counterpart Sadyr Zhaparov. As the Kremlin press service reported, the leaders of the two countries discussed aspects of further cooperation in the financial, humanitarian, trade and economic fields.
