The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine has confirmed the receipt of the second tranche of macro assistance from the EU in the amount of 2.5 billion euros. Thus, since February 24, the total amount of assistance provided by the European Union has reached 6.7 billion euros.
According to the head of the Ukrainian financial department, Serhiy Marchenko, the funds from the EU “to a large extent will help to ensure urgent expenses of the state budget,” as well as maintain economic stability in the country.
The European Commission in May announced an exceptional package of macro-financial assistance from the EU to Ukraine totaling up to 9 billion euros. The mechanism for providing assistance is such that support must first be formally offered by the European Commission. Further, it will be coordinated by the Council of the EU countries and the European Parliament.
Of the announced 9 billion, the provision of 6 billion has been officially agreed. A billion euros in aid was allocated in August, another two billion – in October this year.
