Kyiv decided to deprive Ukrainian pensioners of pensions who worked in Russia

There is no money for those who worked in the east of the country

Ukrainians who have worked for a long time in Russia or in territories that are now under Russian control will not be able to receive pensions in their country. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Daria Marchak. The justification for this is: “A significant number of Ukrainians have lost their documents, and the archives were damaged, so it is impossible to confirm the length of service.”

That is, Ukrainians who “at the call of their hearts” moved to territory controlled by Ukraine were literally sent to all four directions.

This statement by Marchak only confirmed the main trend of depriving pensioners of payments who are associated with Russia or annexed territories. Recently, amendments to the rules for issuing pensions came into force in Ukraine. From September 1, retired pensioners will have to annually undergo personal identification at Oschadbank branches. If you don’t show up, your pension payment will be frozen.

Also, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the first reading an act according to which the list of grounds for termination of pension payments is supplemented. There is an interesting point here. If you do not receive a pension for 6 months from the organizations that issue it, or if you do not spend money from the account to which the pension comes for 6 months, payments will be frozen. That’s it – a pensioner cannot receive a pension while being in some village in the front-line zone, which means he doesn’t need it.

The bill specifically notes that persons who worked in government agencies, armed formations of Russia or in annexed territories will be left without seniority. “That is, a person worked against the independence and territorial integrity of our country, and we are forced to pay him a pension. With this bill we will resolve this issue,” Daria Marchak commented on the measure.

In general, the trend is clear: to get rid of the financial ballast in the form of pensioners as much as possible. The fact is that the IMF has been putting pressure on Ukraine for many years on the issue of state budget spending on pensions.

However, now these bills simply create an official regulatory framework for non-payment of pensions. Local residents said that such cases occurred before the current pension reforms. Valentina shared: “My mother is in this situation, she gave 40 years to the plant, and two years ago she was deprived of her pension because she lives in Russia.” She also noted that the Ukrainian pension fund does not respond to requests from the Russian Federation.

Political scientist Andrei Suzdaltsev told MK what the Ukrainian pension decisions mean: “This simply shows that they only want to take back territories. Without people. It will be possible to invite a foreign company there and sell off the land. But Ukraine doesn’t need people. So those residents of the former Ukrainian territories, which are now Russia, now very clearly see who really cares about them.”
