Kyiv asked the US for ATACMS “to enhance long-range capabilities”

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and US State Department head Anthony Blinken had a telephone conversation during which they discussed the results of recent multilateral consultations in Jeddah. This was announced on Monday, August 7, by State Department Speaker Matthew Miller.
According to the official, the politicians discussed “developments in Ukraine’s counter-offensive efforts, the recent consultations on a just and lasting peace in Ukraine held in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, and long-term security agreements” between Washington and Kiev.
Blinken confirmed to Kuleba continued support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Miller said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian minister again asked the American side for ATACMS missiles “to strengthen the long-range capabilities of Ukraine,” the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
At the end of July, Western media reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden firmly adhered to the decision not to supply Kyiv with long-range ATACMS missilesdespite the increasing requests of the Ukrainian authorities.
Germany also does not want to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles. German Foreign Minister Boris Pistorius said that the supply of Taurus cruise missiles are not a priority in helping Kyiv.
