“The best gift to Ukraine for Christmas” from Germany is the EU’s consent to negotiations on Ukraine’s admission, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said in an interview with Bild Kuleba. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Kuleba also emphasized that this agreement was largely achieved thanks to the efforts of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, primarily from the point of view of overcoming the position of Hungary, which threatened to impose a veto.
According to Kuleba, Scholz’s efforts will go down in history “as an act of German leadership in the interests of Europe.” He said that “political clarity on Ukraine’s EU membership may be the best Christmas gift from Berlin.”
Earlier, the EU announced plans to launch negotiations on future membership in the European Union with Ukraine and Moldova. At the same time, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the decision to start negotiations between the EU and Ukraine is only political and has no legal force. According to him, the European Union is still very far from real expansion that includes Ukraine.
