Kuleba and Stoltenberg discussed steps towards Ukraine’s accession to NATO

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Tuesday, August 29, that he had discussed with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg the steps for the country’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance.
The diplomat did not specify these steps, but noted that the full-fledged deployment of the Ukraine-NATO Council and the preparation of Kyiv for the autumn Defense Industry Forum were also discussed.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the possibility of exchanging part of the country’s territories for NATO membership. According to the politician, “changing NATO for our lands is a dishonest dialogue and a provocation”.
Meanwhile, European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton said that Ukraine would not be included in NATO while the fighting continues. He explained this by the fact that then, according to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, in a conflict all countries of the alliance will have to join.
