Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova and Belgium’s Elise Mertens beat world No. 1 and World No. 4 in doubles Kateryna Sinyakova and Barbora Kreychikova of the Czech Republic in the final of the WTA Finals. The match, which took place in Fort Worth (USA, Texas), ended with a score of 6:2, 4:6, 11:9.
25-year-old Kudermetova is ranked fifth in the WTA rankings in doubles. She has two victories in association tournaments. 26-year-old Mertens is in ninth place in the rankings in pairs. She has one WTA title in this category.
Representatives of the Czech Republic were the winners of the last WTA Finals in doubles. In 2022, they were able to collect a career Golden Slam – they have victories in all four Grand Slam tournaments.
The final WTA tournament is a tournament for athletes who have scored the most points in a season. Arina Sobolenko (Belarus) and Caroline Garcia (France) went to the final of the competition in singles.
