Kuban hosted the international motocross tournament

The next sports week was marked by prestigious competitions in the Kuban region. The handball SKIF was left without a head coach, and the rugby players of the Bogatyrs failed to repeat last year’s success.

Fifteen flags

The most significant sporting event of the week in the Krasnodar Territory was, of course, international motocross competitions. The second Commonwealth Cup in history, held on June 10-11, was again hosted by the Orlyonok All-Russian Children’s Center.

Athletes from Russia, Armenia, Belarus, South Ossetia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, South Korea, China, India, Turkey and Italy came to the competition in the Tuapse region.

Participants identified the best in the 65, 85, 125, 250 cubic centimeters classes, as well as the open class and the team standings.

The Kuban national team was represented by nine motocrossmen.

— The Krasnodar Territory is traditionally a place of attraction for motorcycle racers not only from all over Russia, but also from other countries. The track in the Tuapse district meets the requirements of the most prestigious tournaments – stages of the World Championship have been successfully held here several times, – said Serafim Timchenko, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Kuban. — I am sure that the participants of the Commonwealth Cup also felt the high level of the competition and warm hospitality. Despite sanctions and Western pressure, sports and cultural ties between people of different countries are stronger and show an example of triumph over the short-sighted politics of restrictions.

Three Kuban athletes climbed to the highest step of the podium following the results of the tournament. Alexey Orlov, Sofia Pogorelova became the best among adults in the class of 125 cubic centimeters. And Yaroslav Pekhotin is among the boys in the class of 85 cubic centimeters.

Four more Kuban were among the winners. Daniil Kesov (class – 250 cc, men) and Andrey Chernichko (class – 85 cc, boys) became silver medalists. Senior bronze medalists were Svyatoslav Pronenko and Ilya Babin in the open and 125cc classes. cm.

In the national standings, the Russian team won, Alexei Orlov was also a part of it. In the team standings, the team of the Krasnodar Territory took second place.

“Ekaterinodar” catches up again

Another important, but internal Russian event took place in Anapa. On June 9-11, the starting round of the national championship in beach handball among men’s teams took place. There were quite a lot of participants: eleven teams at once. And at once five of them represented the Krasnodar Territory. The main handball club of the Kuban is Yekaterinodar, a multiple champion of Russia, winner and prize-winner of European competitions. Last year the team from Krasnodar won silver medals, losing to the Belgorod club Tekhnolog-Spartak.

In Anapa, the participants played each other in one round, thus having played ten matches. The leaders of the last year have taken the lead again. The club from Belgorod passed the tournament way without losses. “Ekaterinodar” stumbled only in the game with Spartak, losing with a score of 0: 2 in sets. “Technolog-Spartak” did not give the opponent a single game at all. He has the maximum twenty points, Krasnodar has eighteen.

Three teams scored fourteen points each, and among them two Kuban representatives: “Ekaterinodar-Olimp” and the team of the Krasnodar Territory. Also in this trio is another Belgorod team – Spartak-Reefs. “The same age” from Krymsk scored eight points and is sixth, the KubSU team has six tournament points and shares the seventh and eighth positions.

In total, there will be four rounds in the Russian Championship. All points scored will go to the teams.

Let’s move on to classic handball. Krasnodar SKIF will have a new head coach. Dmitry Karlov left his post last week. Under his leadership, the Krasnodar club took seventh place in the Super League.

Karlov played for SKIF as a player, and in 1993 he became the world champion as part of the Russian team. In 2013, already in the role of head coach, Dmitry Vladimirovich led the Krasnodar team to the bronze medals of the Super League. He returned to the team in February 2022. The season before last, the team fought for survival and avoided relegation, finishing in tenth place.

The contract with the coach expired and was not renewed. The name of the new mentor has not yet been announced. Four more players left the club. These are field players Anton Volkov, who was the team captain last season, Yaroslav Zimin, Alexei Baukin and goalkeeper Nikita Shkarlat. All of them did not have much playing practice last season.

But SKIF was replenished by winger Sergey Nikolaenkov, who is a pupil of the club. Moreover, he returned with a gold award following the results of the last championship, won as part of CSKA. In 2020, he moved to the camp of the Moscow club, where a whole troop of SKIF students performs. He also has two silver medals in a red and blue uniform. Nikolaenkov played 92 matches for CSKA and scored 250 goals.

The classic handball season finally ended after the SEHA-Gazprom League Final Four took place in St. Petersburg on June 6-8, in which the leading clubs of Russia and Belarus played. SKIF did not take part in the tournament.

The decisive stage for the Russian clubs was unsuccessful: the Chekhov Bears and the Perm Bears lost in the semifinals. And the GC “Meshkov Brest” became a triumphant. This team is especially noteworthy in that two Krasnodar players led it to victory: head coach Eduard Koksharov and goalkeeper Denis Zabolotin.

The Olympic champion of Sydney Eduard Koksharov did not work out in the women’s championship of Russia, in the second part of the current season he left the post of head coach of Rostov-Don. But he successfully picked up the Belarusian club. And the pupil of SKIF – 24-year-old Zabolotin – became the hero of the semi-final against the “Perm Bears”. The result of the match was 34:33. Denis saved 23 shots on goal (42 percent in total). Such a number of saves became both a personal record for the goalkeeper and this tournament.

In the final, the team from Brest outplayed SKA-Minsk in a no less dramatic match – 32:31. Zabolotin was recognized as the most valuable player of the Final Four. Eduard Koksharov entered the symbolic team of the tournament.

Consolation Bronze

The “Final Four” ended in the Premier League in classic rugby. Krasnodar “Bogatyrs” tried to defend the championship title last season.

This draw for the team of Anton Levchenko was not so successful. “Bogatyrs” in the southern zone took only second place, but received a wild card for the decisive tournament, which was hosted by St. Petersburg on June 9-12 at the Petrovsky stadium.

In the semi-finals, Bogatyrs met with the hosts of the competition – the rugby players of the St. Petersburg team. The game was difficult for the guests. They trailed 0-11 in the first half after a missed try and two free kicks converted by the hosts. Just before the break, Magomed Kurbanov made his way into the “city” of St. Petersburg – 5: 11. Another attempt at the beginning of the second half was made by Nikita Bondarenko – he took advantage of a pass with his foot forward from Alexander Denisenko – and reduced the gap to a minimum. The hosts answered this with their drift right in the center and added two more points to five points for a successfully broken conversion – 18:10. Bondarenko’s second attempt in the match aggravated the situation eleven minutes before the end of regular time. Alas, the score has not changed – 18 : 15. The hosts made it to the decisive match.

“Bogatyrs” disputed the third place against “Kazan”. The duel turned out to be the most productive. Krasnodar residents felt much more preferable. They won the first half – 19 : 5, scoring three attempts. After the break, we increased the number of skids to eight! Three of them were made by Dmitry Karasyuk, two more by Bondarenko.

In the last ten minutes, Kazan cheered up and took the Krasnodar city three times. However, the gap by that time was too great. The result – 45 : 31 in favor of the Bogatyrs, who won bronze medals.

The victory in the tournament was won by the team of St. Petersburg, defeating Grad Petrov from Taganrog with a score of 20:12 in the final.

It is also worth noting from the news that the players of KubSU won another victory in the strongest division of the National Student Football League. In the second Igor Gamula Interregional Super League Tournament, which was held in Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar won all three matches without missing a single one.

In the first of them, Alexei Gerasimenko’s wards outplayed the Don State Technical University – 4: 0. Then KubSU with the same score – 1: 0 – defeated the Southern Federal University and St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design.

In the home tournament held in April, KubSU also scored three victories in three matches. The team has eighteen points out of eighteen possible and a confident first place. KubSU will hold its next matches on October 10-12. The teams of DGTU (Rostov-on-Don), ChGU (Grozny) and RUS “GTSOLIFK” (Moscow) will become rivals.
