On January 31, the Kuban State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism celebrated its 55th anniversary. One of the leading sports universities in Russia was founded in 1959.

Students and graduates of KSUFKST won 80 medals of various denominations at the Olympic Games, 16 – Paralympic, 14 – Deaflympic. And at the world championships, representatives of the university of physical education won 300 awards of the highest standard.

Among the most famous graduates of KSUFKST are three-time Olympic champion in handball Andrei Lavrov (Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992, Sydney 2000), the first ever winners of the Games in trampoline Alexander Moskalenko and Irina Karavaeva (Sydney 2000), Olympic champion in Greco -Roman wrestling Murat Kardanov (also Sydney 2000), winner of the 1980 Moscow Olympics in modern pentathlon Evgeny Lipeev.

The Minister of Sports of the Krasnodar Territory, Serafim Timchenko, also congratulated the university on its anniversary. He wished the university to preserve traditions, give existing athletes the opportunity to develop and inspire young people to achieve achievements.

Previously, an athlete from Krasnodar at the Governor’s Cup performed standard for an international master of sports in athletics.
