Kremlin: Relations between Russia and the United States under Biden reached a nadir

Relations between Moscow and Washington in the first two years of the presidency of American leader Joe Biden have reached a historical low point, spokesman for the Russian president Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“The past two years, despite the initial timid hopes associated with Geneva (Putin and Biden spent summit in June 2021 – Vedomosti) were very bad for our bilateral relations, bilateral relations are now probably at the lowest point historically, unfortunately,” he said.
There are no hopes for an improvement in relations in the foreseeable future, Peskov added.
Earlier in December, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the strategic dialogue between Russia and the United States held Washington in a frozen state. This, according to him, is fraught with an avalanche-like increase in risks.
At the end of December, Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks in Washington. Following the talks during a joint press conference, Biden informedthat Zelensky is open to the search for a “just peace” with Russia. After that, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that Zelensky’s trip to the United States demonstratesthat neither he nor the American leadership is ready for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and negotiations with Russia. According to him, these talks demonstrated “a focus on war, on the death of ordinary soldiers, on further tying the Ukrainian regime to the needs of Washington.” Antonov stressed that reports that Russia is not interested in achieving peace are false.
