Kremlin: Putin’s contacts with Middle East leaders are not yet planned

Contacts with Palestine, Israel and Egypt are conducted daily at the working level; such contacts are not planned at the highest level yet. This was announced by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
“Contacts with the mentioned parties are carried out on a daily basis at the working level. There are no plans for contacts at the highest level yet,” he said, answering a question about possible contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and colleagues in the Middle East.
October 16 Putin discussed worsening of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict with the presidents of Syria, Iran, Egypt and Palestine Bashar al-Assad, Ebrahim Raisi, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Mahmoud Abbas, respectively. The Kremlin noted that the parties unanimously supported an early ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
On the same day, the President of the Russian Federation spent telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During the conversation, Putin condemned “any actions that victimize the civilian population, including women and children,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
Previously, Putin said that Israel had suffered an unprecedented brutal attack from the Palestinian group Hamas and had the right to protection. He also repeatedly emphasized that Moscow favors the creation of an independent state of Palestine with its capital in East Jerusalem.
The Palestinian group Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, with the military regularly carrying out strikes on the Gaza Strip. According to the latest data, as a result of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, more than 11,000 people have died, including over 10,000 Palestinians.
