Kremlin: peace initiatives in Ukraine, taking into account the position of Russia, deserve attention

Russia is ready to listen to the proposals of third countries for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, if they take into account the position of Moscow, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
At the conference call, journalists were asked to comment on the proposal to create an international negotiating group on Ukraine, which was made earlier by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
“Any ideas that take into account the interests of Russia, the concerns of Russia, of course, deserve attention and, of course, they should and should be listened to. And Russia is ready to do it. For us, the main thing is to ensure our own interests, ”Peskov replied.
As for the very initiative of the Brazilian president, it is too early to give it an assessment, the Kremlin believes, since there is still too little information for this. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who is in Brazil on a visit, can “get the nuances,” Peskov added.
The Kremlin spokesman was also asked to comment on Silva’s invitation by Vladimir Putin to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) this year and asked which heads of state could take part in the forum.
“There are some developments. Now the program is being made up and work with guests is underway. As soon as it is finalized, we, as always, will inform you,” Peskov replied.
On April 15, Silva urged the United States to stop “heating up” the conflict in Ukraine and move on to finding its peaceful solution, transmitted TASS. The Brazilian president stressed that it is necessary to assemble a negotiating group from among the countries that “do not advocate war.”
Against the backdrop of the start of a special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and began to provide military assistance to Kyiv. US President Joe Biden has previously stressed that the country will support Ukraine “for as long as it takes.”
The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to the Ukrainian army. In particular, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, warned that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the supply of long-range weapons would only expand the geography of the special operation.
