A visit by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Russia is on the agenda, but now it is difficult to talk about an exact date. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
“We said that such a visit is on the agenda. But now it is difficult to talk about the exact date for obvious reasons. It will be further coordinated,” he said.
The Palestinian leader’s visit to the Russian Federation was announced even before the Hamas attack on Israel. October 26 Peskov statedthat Abbas may visit Russia in the near future. The Kremlin promised to announce the timing later. Abbas and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to discuss the conflict in the Middle East.
In July, Putin had a telephone conversation with Abbas. Then the Palestinian president expressed support for the actions of the Russian leadership. Putin, in turn, confirmed Moscow’s position, which advocates a fair and sustainable resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The conflict escalated on October 7 after an attack by Hamas militants on Israel. In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched Operation Iron Swords, and since then the military has regularly launched strikes on the Gaza Strip. According to the latest data, more than 10,000 people have died as a result of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Gaza reported more than 8,800 deaths in the Israeli strikes, and about 1,400 people were killed in Israel after the group’s attack.
