Kravtsov voted for the name “Pioneers” for the new youth movement

Russian Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov took part in the voting for a name for the new movement of children and youth. He told reporters that he voted for the Pioneers.
“I voted for the name “Pioneers”, <...> but let’s see what name the schoolchildren will choose today,” said Mr. Kravtsov (quoted by TASS).
He believes that the name “Pioneers” may not be very relevant for the younger generation, since it is associated with the Soviet Union. However, according to him, now there is a return to tradition.
“It seems to me that in the system of the Soviet past there was a certain imposition, and, probably, this caused a certain rejection. It is important not to repeat these mistakes, to give freedom to schoolchildren, children to decide on the name,” the minister said.
The decision on how to name the movement will be made on December 18. Voting leaders steel “Russian Movement of Children and Youth” (17.51%), “Pioneers” (17.23%) and “Movement im. Gagarin” (17.14%).
The bill on the creation of a new youth movement was submitted to the State Duma on May 19, the day of the 100th anniversary of the Soviet pioneers. As conceived by the authors, the new movement will be a modern analogue of the Soviet pioneer organization. Among the goals of the movement were the promotion of the development of state policy in the interests of children and participation in their upbringing.
