A South Korean woman offered her liver to a businessman in exchange for her son’s employment. As a result, she was put on trial, reports Hankyoreh.
The 50-year-old woman is reported to have learned about the illness of the chairman of a large construction company and decided to offer him a liver transplant. In return, she wanted employment for her son in this company, as well as a reward of 100 million won (5.6 million rubles). At the same time, the sale of organs in South Korea is prohibited by law.
At a meeting with the chairman’s son, the parties discussed the details, and the son agreed. The woman passed the necessary tests, introducing herself to the doctors as the daughter-in-law of a sick businessman.
The woman approached the role of a donor, but the operation had to be postponed due to the fact that she became ill with a coronavirus. Doctors, meanwhile, had suspicions about whether the patient was really the daughter-in-law of a businessman. They called the service that investigates the illegal trade in organs. Proceedings began, the operation was never carried out, and the businessman died.
The woman was sent to court, she stated that she did not know about the violation of the law and just wanted to get a job for her son. She was sentenced to a fine of three million won (169.6 thousand rubles).
