He opined that the United States was partly responsible for the tensions with the two states.

“We are on the verge of war with Russia and China on issues that we partially created without any idea of ​​how it will end or where it should lead,” Kissinger said. The diplomat believes that after the Russian special operation in Ukraine is completed, “parts of Donbass” will become part of Russia.

The former US Secretary of State also said that he considered it logical for Poland and other “traditionally Western countries” to join NATO. Ukraine does not belong to this category, because it is the territory “which the Russians consider their own.” Kissinger expressed the opinion that Ukraine’s position as a buffer between the West and Russia could contribute to stability.

“I was for the complete independence of Ukraine, but I thought that something like Finland would be the best role for it,” he said.
