The world is on the verge of a dangerous imbalance as the United States is involved in a conflict with Russia and China, said in an interview with the publication The Wall Street Journal Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. He opined that the United States was partly responsible for the tensions with the two states.
“We are on the verge of war with Russia and China on issues that we partially created without any idea of how it will end or where it should lead,” Kissinger said. The diplomat believes that after the Russian special operation in Ukraine is completed, “parts of Donbass” will become part of Russia.
The former US Secretary of State also said that he considered it logical for Poland and other “traditionally Western countries” to join NATO. Ukraine does not belong to this category, because it is the territory “which the Russians consider their own.” Kissinger expressed the opinion that Ukraine’s position as a buffer between the West and Russia could contribute to stability.
“I was for the complete independence of Ukraine, but I thought that something like Finland would be the best role for it,” he said.
May 23 at the forum in Davos Kissinger declaredthat the main goal of resolving the situation in Ukraine should be to achieve a neutral status of the country and its formation as a bridge between Russia and Europe. He also stressed that the West should stop trying to defeat Russia at the hands of Ukraine. During his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he noted that the West’s disregard for Russia in the alignment of forces could lead to fatal consequences. “Negotiations must begin in the next two months, otherwise shocks are coming and tensions will be created that will not be easy to overcome,” Kissinger was quoted by RIA Novosti.
On May 27, after his statements at the forum in Davos, Kissinger was included in the base of the Ukrainian “Peacemaker” because of “Russia’s special information operation against Ukraine,” RIA Novosti reported. July 4th Henry Kissinger declaredthat he did not call on Ukraine to make territorial concessions to Russia during his speech at the World Economic Forum.
