On August 9, Kinopoisk launched an exclusive screening of the new season of Dana White’s Contender Series. The season consists of ten mini-tournaments in which talented fighters from all over the world compete for a contract with the UFC. Every week promotion boss Dana White will announce live the names of those who will strengthen the roster of the main organization in the world of mixed martial arts. In the seventh season, Russian heavyweights will take part in the project – undefeated Shamil Gaziev (10-0) and Alexander Soldatkin (14-3), as well as Sora Rakhmonova from Kazakhstan (4-1) – the sister of Shavkat Rakhmonov. The voices of the show were commentators David Baghdasaryan and Oleg Volodin.
In the main event of the premiere episode, experienced kickboxer Cesar Almeida, who once defeated Alex Pereira, took on LFA middleweight title holder Lucas Fernando.
Launched in 2017, the project has helped skyrocket the careers of many current fighters, including bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley, as well as Brendan Allen, Dan Ige, Ricky Simone and Kevin Holland. In total, these five fighters have won 47 UFC victories since their performance at the Dana White Challenger Series. Another “graduate” of the show, Jamal Hill, became the UFC light heavyweight champion in January 2023 by defeating Glover Teixeira. Among the Russian fighters who successfully performed at the DWCS are Vyacheslav Borshchev, Azamat Murzakanov, Albert Duraev and Victoria Dudakova.
In six years, 200 fighters have received contracts with the UFC through performances on the Dana White Challenger Series. Starting from August, this figure will change upwards.
The first episode is already available on Kinopoisk. New episodes will air weekly on Wednesdays until October 11, 2023.
