The problem of violators of discipline is relevant, including in the zone of the special military operation. To solve it, changes are needed in the legislation, which does not yet fully regulate the issues of restoring order in the troops and the permissible impact on violators in a combat situation. The commander of the Vostok battalion Alexander Khodakovsky spoke about this problem.

“In my experience, commanders in active units during a clash with the enemy do not have enough methods to bring discipline to personnel. An ordinary diligent officer who has just graduated from a military school and academy often lacks the readiness to immediately stop any disobedience of the soldiers under his responsibility, ”the battalion commander explained in an interview with the Fighterbomber YouTube channel.

“Disciplinary battalions are needed to restore order in the Russian army,” Khodakovsky believes. “Specially trained people should influence the violators, while the commanders think about tactics and not waste time coddling with disobedient wards.”

“We have thought about amending the legislation in order to forcibly send violators to the combat zone,” the battalion commander said.

He shared his personal command experience accumulated since 2014: “I had several such cases: I placed undisciplined guys in a permanent deployment center and locked them in the “weaponry” (round-the-clock guarded room for cabinets with weapons. – “MK”). Almost like a prison. Many of them preferred to stay there rather than return to the front. That is why the disciplinary battalions should be in the form of penal companies.”

According to him, “there are quite a few people among the soldiers who not only oppose orders themselves, but also begin to sabotage the execution of a combat mission, saying that they are “cannon fodder” and so on.”

“This is a very common phenomenon when cowardly soldiers try to convince their colleagues that all their problems are caused by the commander, even if he did everything right,” Alexander Khodakovsky said.
