Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Alexander Khinshtein said that the YouTube video hosting in Russia does not yet have an “adequate and complete replacement” in the Russian segment of the Internet, and this prevents the service from being blocked.
“The key word here is for now,” Khinshtein said at a training seminar on the eve of the first meeting of the youth parliament in Anosino, near Moscow.
The deputy said that without the appearance of an analogue, YouTube users “will become hostages” if blocked, and suggested that an alternative to the service will appear in the country.
Khinshtein suggested that blocking any messenger, including WhatsApp, if necessary, would make things easier.
