Khinshtein confirmed the ban on LGBT propaganda in video games

State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein said that the ban on LGBT propaganda covers video games. He announced this during a press conference following the autumn session of the State Duma.
“In our view, the ban on LGBT propaganda covers video games. … It is forbidden to sell any product containing information for the dissemination of which administrative or criminal liability is established, therefore everything that is sold also falls under this, ”said the deputy (quote from a press conference recording In contact with).
According to Mr. Khinshtein, if video games are distributed via the Internet, then legal relations in this area are covered by Federal Law 149 (“On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection”). Games containing LGBT propaganda should be removed from online platforms, the deputy specified.
At the same time, Mr. Khinshtein added, a separate legal regulation of computer games is needed, but not within the framework of the law on LGBT propaganda.

According to the law, fines are introduced: for individuals – up to 800 thousand rubles, for officials – up to 800 thousand rubles, for legal entities – up to 10 million rubles. During the drafting of the bill, SRHR MP Yana Lantratova introduced an amendment that would ban computer games that “show gays, lesbians, and transgender people.” However, this amendment was rejected.
She also compiled the following list of games that are subject to the law’s restrictions: Inquisition, Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Borderlands, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Life Is Strange, The Last of Us, The Last of Us: Part 2, Fallout, Apex Legends, RimWorld, Overwatch, etc.
