State Duma Deputy Alexander Khinshtein commented on media reports according to which regional structures of the Wagner PMC became part of the Russian Guard and resumed receiving fighters. It was alleged that the work was led by the son of the late head of the company, Yevgeny Prigozhin, Pavel.

“There is and cannot be any talk of PMCs joining the Russian Guard,” Khinshtein said.

According to him, “representatives of the former PMC themselves denied such a set,” and journalists from publications who wrote about the PMC’s entry into the Russian Guard “could not explain the origin of the information.” Khinshtein added that former PMC fighters can enter into contracts with the Russian Guard “only on an individual basis,” “as volunteers.”

“The structural absorption of PMCs by the Russian Guard is impossible by definition,” Khinshtein concluded.
